Derek is one of the powered teens you can recruit for the Night City High Defense League (NCHDL).
Recruitment[]
To recruit Derek you need to have Freddy follow him until you learn of his past as a soccer player or until he's creeping out the girls in swim class.
Goalie[]
Once you learn of his past as a soccer player you can persuade Principal Larson to allow him to be the team's goalie. Not a perfect solution, but he'll join. You'll need to build up a lot of favor before he will be willing to go on missions.
Girlfriend[]
When you go to swim class after Freddy tells you about him being seen there, Sandra will ask you to get rid of him. After some exchanges you can choose so ask Sandra to go on a date with him or give up. If she goes on the date he will enthusiastically join and gain 40 favor. You will need to go to swim class again to see the results of the date.
Building Favor[]
Once you have recruited Derek, he will actually gain favor from tutoring, though if you used the Goalie option his efforts will be half-assed and only gain 1 favor.
If you got him a girlfriend, you can eat lunch with them and gain favor.
Deployment[]
You can select him to help with NCHDL Plots. This requires him to have 40+ Favor and typically costs 10 Favor.
